With Xylem REACH 2020 less than two weeks away, this month’s On a Roll features Carolina Berg, senior events manager at Sensus, who is leading the charge for this year’s global conference. Learn a little bit about how this thrill-seeker (who once flew a helicopter to the top of a glacier in New Zealand) manages to successfully pilot one of Xylem’s largest events of the year.

In 20 words or less, what do you do?
Plan, execute and run all of our industry tradeshows, as well as our Reach conference (with the help of great team members, of course).

What’s your favorite thing about your job?
I love to plan, so naturally being an event planner is a great fit for me. Getting to see all of the effort the team puts into our events and seeing the end result is my favorite part. Getting to travel (before and hopefully after the pandemic) is also fun!

What surprises people most when you tell them about your job?
Believe it or not, I don’t just plan parties! My two master’s degrees would be sad if that was all I did.

What’s your favorite customer memory or field experience?
I love it when customers have a great experience at Reach. Having them tell us that they find value in attending the event makes all the hard work worth it.

What has been the biggest change to your daily routine since the pandemic began?
With all events going virtual, it has been a learning experience trying to navigate through new technologies. Planning a virtual event is a whole different ballgame from an in-person one.

What’s your favorite safety tip or work hack?
Finish whatever you are working on at the moment before answering an email or multi-tasking. In events, it is easy to start working on 20 different tasks at once, but sometimes you just need to focus on one.

Finish this sentence: On a given day, you will find me…
…working out, walking my dog, Goose, and trying to figure out second-grade math for my daughter’s virtual school.

If you weren’t in the utility industry, what would your dream job be?
My dream job would be one in Student Affairs. In another life, I would love to be the Dean of Students at a university.

It’s not too late to join Carolina and other experts at this year’s Xylem Reach! Click here to register – our virtual experience is free this year for utility professionals.
